WASHINGTON, DC: Former South Carolina state Representative Bakari Sellers, a Democrat, expressed his belief that Senator Marco Rubio is former President Donald Trump’s best option for vice president.

Sellers shared his thoughts during an appearance on 'Real Time with Bill Maher,' where he discussed the upcoming Republican National Convention (RNC) and Trump's highly anticipated running mate announcement.

Sellers argued that Rubio poses a significant threat to Democrats, citing his extensive experience and appeal to Hispanic voters.

“I would say that the only person who poses any fear for Democrats is probably Marco Rubio,” Sellers said, according to The Hill.

He praised Rubio's tenure in the Senate since 2011, noting that he "looks like the future and has a lot of experience."

As a Cuban American, Sellers highlighted Rubio’s unique ability to connect with Hispanic voters in ways Trump cannot.

Sellers also noted Rubio’s potential strength in a debate against Vice President Kamala Harris, saying, “He’s a notable opponent against Kamala Harris in the debate.”

Sellers dismissed other rumored candidates such as Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio) and Gov Doug Burgum(R-ND), stating that they do not give Democrats cause for concern. He added that Vance “stands for nothing.”

Donald Trump's suspense over VP pick continues

Trump has kept the suspense over his running mate alive with plans to announce his choice during the RNC’s Milwaukee convention.

However recently, Trump revealed his VP finalists in a radio interview, listing Doug Burgum, JD Vance, Marco Rubio, and Tim Scott as his potential running mates.

In June, Trump told NBC News ahead of a rally in Philadelphia that he had made up his mind about his vice-presidential pick.

“In my mind, yeah,” Trump said when asked if he had decided. When asked if his pick was aware, Trump responded, “No, nobody knows.”

Since then, Trump has given mixed signals, suggesting at times that his mind is made up and at others that he is still deciding.

The Hill stated that sources close to Trump have indicated that they are also in the dark. It includes his son Donald Trump Jr.

“I have no inside information, obviously,” Trump Jr said during a recent episode of his podcast 'Triggered.'

Marco Rubio's past with Donald Trump resurfaces

Notably, Marco Rubio once made a crude joke about Trump when he was his GOP presidential rival in 2016.

"He is taller than me, he's like 6' 2" which is why I don't understand why his hands are the size of someone who is 5' 2," Rubio told supporters at the time, according to ABC News.

"Have you seen his hands? And you know what they say about men with small hands...You can't trust them," he added.

Trump hit back at Rubio during the Republican debate in Detroit at the time, and during other events, holding up his hands to the audience.

"Look at those hands. Are they small hands? And he referred to my hands -- if they are small, something else must be small. I guarantee you there is no problem. I guarantee you," he said.

Internet reacts to Senator Marco Rubio being Donald Trump's potential VP pick

Internet reactions have been mixed with many Republican followers excited about the possible VP Pick.

One user on X argued about Bakari's assertion that Rubio is Trump's choice, "No way. Don’t believe anything that guy says."

Another recalled Rubio's joke with a series of laughing emoticons writing, "In a debate, He had told that “Trump has small hands.”

Some users speculated about other potential picks with one writing, "My money for Trump's VP pick is still on Noem. I just can't convince myself that Trump would take advice from his son who gave him Cohen."

Others showed support for Rubio with one user answering his choice for VP pick Trump should have, "@marcorubio without any doubt! Thanks for asking!"

Another added, "Marco Rubio is more qualified than the GOP candidate for President but that has never mattered."

One user expressed their preference, writing, "I want Vivek or Byron Donald but I’m pretty sure Trump is picking Marco Rubio."
