MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Donald Trump's defense lawyer was summoned to the bench by Judge Juan Merchan, who, according to the trial transcript, told him to talk to his client about his "contemptuous" demeanor during Stephanie Clifford aka Stormy Daniels' testimony in his hush money criminal trial.

Judge Merchan spoke with the ex-POTUS' defense attorney, Todd Blanche, during a mid-morning break on Tuesday, May 7, and noted, "I understand that your client is upset at this point, but he is cursing audibly, and he is shaking his head visually and that’s contemptuous."

"It has the potential to intimidate the witness and the jury can see that," warned the judge.

What transpired during Stormy Daniels’ testimony in the hush money trial?

During the morning session, Daniels began recounting her 2006 encounter with Trump in his hotel room, where she engaged in a relationship with the real estate tycoon, according to CNN.

In exchange for her silence before the 2016 presidential election, she received a payment of $130,000.

The alleged reimbursement payment made by Trump to his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, is the central issue in the charges brought against the former POTUS.

Trump has categorically denied having an affair with Daniels and has pleaded not guilty to all 34 felony counts.

Judge Merchan told Blanche that they were speaking at the bench because he did not want to embarrass the 77-year-old MAGA strongman.

"You need to speak to him. I won’t tolerate that," said Merchan to Blanche, who replied that he would talk to Trump.

Judge Merchan mentioned, "One time I noticed when Ms Daniels was testifying about rolling up the magazine, and presumably smacking your client, and after that point [Trump] shook his head and he looked down. And later, I think he was looking at you, Mr Blanche, later when we were talking about 'The Apprentice', at that point he again uttered a vulgarity and looked at you this time."

Blanche reiterated that he would talk to his client during the break.

Stormy Daniels provides explosive testimony sharing explicit details of her alleged affair with Donald Trump

In the Manhattan courtroom, Daniels confronted a sullen Trump with explicit details of their supposed affair. Her evidence was so garish that even the judge ordered her to tone it down, as per the New York Post.

Daniels claimed that she "spanked" a "rude, arrogant and pompous" Trump "right on the butt" with a copy of one of his magazines and that the former president "was much more polite" after that.

Two jurors were seen smirking when she admitted, "I took it and turned him around and swatted him."

Meanwhile, the former POTUS reportedly mouthed "That’s bulls**t" to his lawyers upon hearing this account from Daniels.

During Tuesday’s trial proceedings, Trump's legal team made several objections as Daniels testified about their alleged sexual encounter, prompting the judge to rule in their favor several times.

Judge Merchan also reprimanded the prosecutors for providing "unnecessary" details, such as the tiles on the hotel floor, where she claimed to have had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006, and the topics they had discussed.

However, the judge sided with prosecutors that Daniels should be allowed to testify about her alleged one-night stand with Trump to establish her "credibility" with the jurors.

Daniels said she met Trump in 2006 during a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe.

She alleged that they had engaged in some banter and she was eventually invited to dinner with him, although they never ended up eating together.

Daniels further claimed that Trump made sexual advances towards her in 2007 after inviting her to the Miss America beauty pageant in Los Angeles. However, she told him she was on her period to avoid the encounter.

Internet reacts to Judge Juan Merchan reprimanding Donald Trump's 'contemptuous' courtroom behavior

One said, "Rage boils over when a control freak loses control. It looks absolutely wonderful on him," and another added, "He is testifying while not testifying purposely because he is a coward."

A person declared, "Sanction the attorneys, jail the defendant," while someone else noted, "All the while the jury are talking notes of his contemptuous behaviour."

"No, Judge Merchan. Call him out. Embarrass him. You have every right to. He is making a mockery of your courtroom with his antics," expressed an individual.

Another person mentioned, "When Trump can't control the narrative and all of his worst qualities are fully on display, his narcissism can't handle it. It is why he only supports politicians who worship him. It is why he has an assistant who follows him around to print out positive news articles. Sad."
