WASHINGTON, DC: The search for a running mate for Vice President Kamala Harris is moving forward at a fast pace. It has been disclosed that her team has held meetings with two top candidates from her running mate shortlist, and an announcement is expected in just a few days, according to DailyMail.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly both have had discussions with members of Harris' search team, as reported on Thursday.

These two politicians have been under consideration for a number of days and each brings valuable qualities to the table for the 2024 Democratic ticket under Harris, who is facing criticism from the Republican party related to her previous positions as California Attorney General and her unsuccessful presidential campaign in 2020.

What are the chances of Governor Josh Shapiro and Senator Mark Kelly becoming Kamala Harris’ 2024 running mate?

The Harris campaign has announced a series of campaign events for the upcoming week, starting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Tuesday. This would put the United States Vice President in Governor Shapiro's territory, in a state crucial to the Democratic “blue wall.”

Shapiro has notably demonstrated his ability to win statewide and surpass President Joe Biden's performance in western Pennsylvania.

In his 2022 victory, the Democrat governor garnered significant support in suburban and exurban areas around Philadelphia, defeating Republican Doug Mastriano by a 15-point margin statewide.

There was a potential indication on Thursday when Governor Shapiro suddenly called off a planned trip to garner campaign funds in the Hamptons this weekend.

However, his team did not indicate that the cancellation was in any way related to the running mate selection process for the Democratic presidential frontrunner.

According to Gov Shapiro's spokesperson Manuel Bonder, "The Governor’s trip was planned several weeks ago and included several fundraisers for his own campaign committee. His schedule has changed and he is no longer traveling to the Hamptons this weekend."

Politico reported that these meetings do not necessarily signal that the two aforementioned candidates have progressed over others on Harris' shortlist. Another candidate on the list is Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Bloomberg reported that the meetings did not involve Vice President Harris herself. She has spent time with each potential running mate while traveling the country, including during multiple visits to Pennsylvania.

Sen Mark Kelly (D-Ariz), on the other hand, brings his own brand of politics, having been lauded as a national hero for his military service and time as an astronaut, and he possesses border credentials that could assist with one of VP Harris' key vulnerabilities.

Each running mate candidate has the potential to aid Harris in a crucial state that contributed to Biden's electoral victory over former President Trump.

Between the two, Pennsylvania is seen as vital and holds 19 electoral votes. Arizona, with 11 electoral votes, leans more Republican. Only two Democrats have won it since 1952, namely, Bill Clinton and Joe Biden.

Former President Donald Trump's lead there averages about 4 points following Harris' lead in a Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll.

Nevertheless, the 78-year-old Republican presidential candidate maintains a 3-point lead in Pennsylvania in the RealClearPolitics average.

Internet split as Kamala Harris' team steps up vetting of two candidates on her running mate shortlist

People online shared their thoughts and opinions surrounding the 2024 presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris's veepstakes which is closer to getting announced this week.

One person said, "Both are class choices. Especially if compared to the Dumpster's running mate. He thinks a sofa is a woman, wears eye liner and is an even bigger misogynist than Dump, and that's some competition! Both Kelly and Shapiro won't have the worry of Harris trying to get them lynched."

Another person suggested, "If I were king of the world, I would put Kamala out there and press hard on the, "Trump too old" button. I would point out that Social Security life/death tables show that a healthy 78 year old male only has a 50 percent chance of living 4 more years. Rub it in bigly."

Another person remarked, "Both a million times better than Vance."

One person argued, "Shapiro is far too firmly linked with the atrocities in Gaza. She is betting on Gen Z. It will be Pete."

Another person claimed, "Shapiro has too many problems that could drag down this race. He paid a settlement for sexual harassment that happened in his office by his top aide. And Shapiro is being investigated by IRS and FBI for taking $1.5 million laundered into his 2022 campaign from a teachers union."

Finally, this individual commented, "Michael Moore has come out against Shapiro claiming he would alienate Muslim voters in Michigan and that he is too pro Israel."
