WASHINGTON, DC: Nancy Pelosi is rumored to be quietly working to persuade President Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race due to ongoing concerns about his chances of winning a second term at the White House.

The former Speaker of the House publicly discussed the 81-year-old incumbent POTUS’s chances on Wednesday, where she refrained from explicitly advising the Democrat statesman to stay in the presidential race.

Nevertheless, Pelosi has reportedly been engaging with influential congressional Democrats, seeking to develop a strategy to encourage President Biden to reconsider his reelection bid.

She is said to have consulted a wide range of individuals, Swing district Democrats are concerned that President Biden may negatively impact their down-ballot races in deep blue areas of the country, the Daily Mail reported.

One Democrat representative, speaking anonymously, described Pelosi as “very concerned” about Biden and is not confirming whether “we're sticking with [Biden].”

Another source claimed Pelosi's message was, “The stakes are so high. We can't afford to do anything but have our best possible opportunity to win.”

Nancy Pelosi is reportedly worried that the Biden campaign's response to the lackluster debate performance in Atlanta two weeks ago did not constitute “an honest reckoning” or “an objective analysis.”

Another unnamed Democrat stated, “It's very clear that she doesn't think that this matter is settled and that Joe Biden's statement - 'I'm running; shut up' -she said, 'No, we're still talking about this.'”

Nancy Pelosi set to lead Democrats’ effort to urge Joe Biden to drop out of 2024 race

The 84-year-old California Democrat has allegedly been advocating for members who believe that President Joe Biden's decision to continue in the race is being “rammed down their throats.”

Rep Adam Smith of Washington, who urged the Commander-in-Chief to withdraw from his reelection bid, remarked, "Team Biden made it clear what their strategy was: ignore the problem, run out the clock, and force the rest of us to live with it."

A spokesperson for Nancy Pelosi told The Hill that she echoed a similar sentiment to the one she expressed on MSNBC on Wednesday, July 10.

Ian Krager, a spokesperson for Pelosi, stated, "Speaker Pelosi fully supports whatever President Biden decides to do. We must turn our attention to why this race is so important: Donald Trump would be a disaster for our country and our democracy."

When asked if Biden has her support on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe', Pelosi responded, "It's up to the president to decide if he's going to run. We're all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running out."

When reminded that Biden has indeed made up his mind, Pelosi asserted, "I want him to do whatever he decides to do," before adding, "Whatever he decides, we go with."

In a letter to House Democrats on Tuesday, July 9, Biden wrote, “I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump.”

Pelosi and Biden have known each other for decades and she has been one of his strongest defenders on Capitol Hill.

She suggested that Democrats should “let him deal with the NATO conference” in Washington, DC, happening this week and “hold off” on public judgment “until we see how we go this week.”

On Tuesday, Pelosi chose to remain silent after leaving an all-caucus meeting of House Democrats where they discussed the future of their party’s presumptive presidential nominee.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), stated that he would not comment on Pelosi's remarks until he had spoken with her.

Democratic Whip Katherine Clark reaffirmed their support for Biden, stating, “Our view has not changed. President Biden is the nominee. There is no light between our caucus and the work we have done with this administration and the work that we will do in the future. As always, this decision is up to the president.”

At least seven House Democrats have called on Biden to drop out of the 2024 race in on-the-record statements. Others have hinted at or expressed a similar sentiment behind closed doors.

Senator Michael Bennet (D-Colorado) expressed his belief that President Joe Biden will cost Democrats the election, stating, "Donald Trump is on track, I think, to win this election and maybe win it by a landslide and take with him the Senate and the House.”

“I think that we could lose the whole thing," he told CNN.
