SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Elon Musk's attempt at an April Fools' Day prank has backfired spectacularly, sparking widespread outrage and condemnation across the internet, as per Business Insider.

In an effort to poke fun at Disney's diversity and inclusion initiatives, the billionaire entrepreneur announced on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that he would be joining the entertainment giant as their "Chief DEI Officer."

However, the joke fell flat, with users lambasting Musk for his lack of comedic talent.

Elon Musk's April Fool's joke referenced his ongoing feud with Disney CEO Bob Iger

Musk's post read: "Excited to join @Disney as their Chief DEI Officer. Can't wait to work with Bob Iger & Kathleen Kennedy to make their content MORE woke! Even the linguini."

The comment was a reference to Musk's ongoing feud with Disney CEO Bob Iger, who had earlier pulled Disney's advertising from X over concerns about the platform's content moderation policies.

Musk had publicly criticized Iger for the move, even suggesting that Iger should be fired. The fallout led to a defamation lawsuit filed by Musk against Media Matters, the organization that reported the placement of ads next to objectionable content.

While Iger had previously addressed the situation diplomatically, expressing respect for Musk but acknowledging the negative association, Musk has continued to escalate tensions.

Most notably, he pledged support for Gina Carano's lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm in February, aligning himself with others critical of Iger's leadership.

It didn't take long for keen-eyed observers to notice that Musk's April Fool's joke was not entirely original. Just minutes before his post, podcaster and author Konstantin Kisin had shared a similar joke, mentioning his supposed new role as the BBC's "Chief Diversity Officer."

Musk's response to Kisin's joke was a single crying-with-laughter emoji, followed by his revised version targeting Disney.
