WASHINGTON, DC: Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene launched a scathing attack on Speaker of the House Mike Johnson on Friday, April 12, criticizing his support for a legislative package that includes funding for Ukraine.

Greene accused Johnson of irking former President Donald Trump by meeting with him and lambasted the allocation of taxpayer funds towards what she described as "the murder and slaughter of the people in Ukraine."

Vocal opposition to Ukraine aid

During an appearance on Steve Bannon's show 'War Room', Greene expressed vehement opposition to Johnson's stance.

“The American people are the ones writing the cheque and I absolutely hate everybody here doing this,” she said. “I mean I seriously hate them for doing this for the American people and paying for the murder and slaughter of the people in Ukraine.”

Greene, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, has been vocal in her opposition to sending any financial assistance to Ukraine. Last month, she filed a motion to vacate Johnson following the House's passage of a spending bill, part of an effort to prevent a government shutdown.

Downplaying the significance of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Greene insisted that Russian President Vladimir Putin had not expressed intentions to expand military operations beyond Ukraine's borders, questioning the necessity of US involvement.

“Vladimir Putin has not said he wants to go march across Europe and take Europe and the reality is Ukraine is not even a Nato member nation,” Greene added.

Alignment with Donald Trump

Her viewpoints closely align with those of former President Trump, who has advocated for a more isolationist foreign policy approach. Trump's willingness to negotiate with Russia over Ukraine, even offering concessions of territory, mirrors Greene's position.

However, Greene's opposition to Ukraine aid stands in stark contrast to Johnson's apparent efforts to secure funding for the nation. Despite their differing perspectives on Ukraine, Johnson was slated to meet with Trump to discuss "election integrity" matters, The Independent reported.

Offering advice to Trump ahead of the meeting, Greene urged him to prioritize his campaign and impending legal battles, cautioning against Johnson's influence. “He doesn’t need to be worrying about what Mike Johnson is trying to talk him into,” she said.

Accusing Johnson of attempting to curry favor with Trump due to fear of her motion to vacate, Greene hinted at escalating tensions within the Freedom Caucus.

While Greene described her motion as a "warning" to Johnson, speculation mounts regarding potential efforts to oust him, reminiscent of a similar situation when Representative Matt Gaetz successfully invoked a motion to vacate against then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy last year.

“They know I mean exactly every single word I say and I’m not full of s*** just like Mike Johnson is and I’m actually going to follow through with action instead of lie to people on television,” Greene said.

Social media pushback

As Greene's remarks gained traction on social media, critics swiftly condemned her rhetoric.

"What a waste of words she could have just said she 'hates everybody' and gone for lunch," one posted on X.

"I'm pretty sure it's Russia paying for the murder and slaughter of the people in Ukraine," another wrote.

"So Christian of her to hate," someone else added.

"At least she's finally earned something through her own hard work. The tag 'Moscow Marge,'" a comment read.

"Not sure what might be scarier here: that this absolute fool might believe what she’s saying or she’s such a reckless liar. Eventually, the US will pay an astronomical price for its belief that 'the Russians are our friends!'" another chimed in.
