DENVER, COLORADO: It has been announced that there will be a special election in Colorado in June 2024 to fill the seat currently held by Republican Rep Ken Buck, who has stated he will resign next week from his position as Colorado's 4th Congressional District representative in the US House of Representatives.

Buck’s state GOP colleague Rep Lauren Boebert, who represents Colorado's 3rd Congressional District, has confirmed that she will not be a candidate in the special election as she intends to serve out the remainder of her current term in Congress, per CBS News.

Although Boebert was gunning to replace Buck in the Centennial State’s 4th Congressional District come November, she may not have the support from state GOP leaders in order to be appointed to the special election.

Even if she were to receive such backing, she would have to vacate her current district to participate.

While it is unclear whether this situation is intentional on Rep Buck's part, it creates a difficult predicament nonetheless for Boebert.

What did Lauren Boebert say following Ken Buck’s announcement to bow out?

During the period from March 22, once Ken Buck leaves Congress, until late June, his seat in Congress will remain vacant. Colorado Governor Jared Polis has ordered for a special election to be held on June 25, which coincides with Colorado's primary elections for House races.

The winning candidate will serve the remainder of Buck's term, while the winner of the GOP primary will be selected to participate in the November general election to serve the next Congress. Whether the same person is elected for both the special election and the GOP primary will depend on the discretion of the voters.

Rep Boebert issued a prepared statement in which she was critical of Rep Buck's choice to leave office, saying, "I will not further imperil the already very slim House Republican majority by resigning my current seat and will continue to deliver on my constituents' priorities while also working hard to earn the votes of the people of Colorado's 4th District who have made clear they are hungry for a real conservative.”

Boebert remarked that Buck's decision will make any elected Congressman or Congresswoman a "lame duck... on day one" because they will only be in office for less than a year unless they also contest for the seat in November's general election and win.

Lauren Boebert took to Rumble to raise funds while also speaking about Ken Buck's resignation from the Colorado 4th congressional district.

Responding to this news, Boebert labeled Buck's decision as "selfish" and part of a "uniparty" arrangement against her, aimed at preventing her from winning the outgoing Republican’s old seat.

Boebert has decided not to resign from representing Colorado's 3rd district in order to run in the Colorado 4th district's special election and acknowledged that if one of her GOP primary opponents is chosen by the committee that appoints the Republican candidate for the special election, they will be given a huge leg-up over her.

According to MeidasTouch, Rep Boebert also alleged that Buck's early retirement is similar to the Colorado Supreme Court's attempt to keep former President Donald Trump off the ballot.

She claimed that Buck's action aims to deprive voters of their right to vote and expressed concern that the special election ballot, which will be held on the same day as the GOP primary ballot, will lead to mass confusion.

Boebert concluded, "The uniparty can have their special election," and requested her followers for campaign contributions.

The firebrand Republican has earned former President Donald Trump's endorsement in the new district and claims to be a part of Trump's "A-Team.”

Colorado's recent past witnessed only one other special election like the one we have today, and that was when Rep Jack Swigert was elected, but unfortunately, he passed away before he could complete his term.

Consequently, voters in Congressional District 6 then elected Rep. Daniel Schaefer to serve out the remainder of Swigert’s term.

Internet mocks Lauren Boebert as Ken Buck withdraws from the congressional district she was vying for

People on X ridiculed the MAGA-aligned congresswoman for finding herself between a rock and a hard place after fellow Republican Rep Ken Buck decided to resign from his post next week.

One X user remarked, "Oh poor baby. He gave his district and the country the best gift ever!"

Another user quipped, "She’s been hanging out with Kari Lake too much"

Another user wrote, "The special election is the same day as the primary. She's going to find out if she loses anyway."

One user asked, "Why is she retreating into a different congressional district? Isn’t she tough as nails and a fighter? She can’t handle a legitimate competitive race? She has to elbow into another Republican district?"

Another X user said, "I'll get over my loathing of Ken Buck if he did orchestrate this deliberately for that sole reason."

Finally, this user tweeted, "If that is true, on behalf of America, we say, 'Well done, Ken Buck.'"
