WASHINGTON, DC: Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, stated on Monday, February 12, that President Joe Biden will not be taking a cognitive test as part of his annual physical this week.

This decision comes despite a recent DOJ report, which expressed concerns regarding the 81-year-old incumbent's memory capacity and cognitive abilities.

President Biden appeared to struggle with some of the questions being asked of him in a White House press conference on Thursday night - the same day the comprehensive 388-page report was released, leading to increased scrutiny on his cognitive health.

The DOJ report, released by Special Counsel Robert Hur, further fueled concerns about the Commander-in-Chief’s fitness in the lead-up to his re-election bid for the crucial November general election.

In contrast, former President Donald Trump was known to have taken and passed a cognitive exam as part of his physicals while in office.

Trump often boasted about his performance on the test, which he claimed demonstrated his mental sharpness as opposed to that of his political rival.

What did Jean-Pierre say when pressed on President Biden’s cognitive test?

Karine Jean-Pierre quoted White House physician Dr Kevin O'Connor when questioned about the president’s cognitive test and claimed it wasn't necessary, per a report by DailyMail.

The White House press secretary stated, “The president proves every day (in) how he operates and how he thinks, by dealing with world leaders, by making difficult decisions on behalf of the American people – whether it's domestic or it's national security.”

“That is how Dr O'Connor sees it, and that is how I'm going to leave it,” she added.

Like many Democrats in the media following the president's Thursday night press conference, Jean-Pierre attempted to emphasize that the Biden she sees is a more composed version of the one that makes media appearances.

“When we have meetings with him and his staff he is constantly pushing us, trying to get more information, and so that has been my experience with this president,” she explained.

Jean-Pierre noted that she has known Biden since 2009, considers him a mentor, and believes the president is still “sharp” and “on top of things.”

During his annual physical on Thursday at Walter Reed, the White House physician, Colonel Kevin O'Connor, reported that President Biden's health is in good condition and he is fit for office.

Last year, O'Connor had proclaimed Biden to be a 'healthy' and 'vigorous' 80-year-old.

Colonel O'Connor also provided an update on the president's health amid concerns over his age, as he prepares to announce a 2024 run for president. The results from the physical were largely unchanged from the previous year, except for the discovery of a lesion on his chest that has been sent for cancer screening.

Despite demands from the other side of the political aisle, there was no cognitive test undertaken by the 81-year-old incumbent during the physical examination.

Biden's gait "remains stiff," according to O'Connor, but he said it hasn't gotten worse since his previous evaluation.

A thorough 'neurologic exam' has also revealed nothing “consistent with any cerebellar or central neurological disorder.”

Jean-Pierre and her colleagues in the Democratic Party face an uphill battle in persuading the American public of their case in point.

According to a recent poll conducted by ABC News/Ipsos, an overwhelming 86% of American voters do not believe President Joe Biden, aged 81, should be considered for a second term in office due to his advanced age.

Similarly, 62% of respondents believe that former President Donald Trump, aged 77, is also too old to run for another White House term.

The poll indicates that 59% of voters believe both candidates are too old for the presidency while 27% believe that only President Biden is too old to be considered.

A separate poll by the Financial Times, released over the weekend, showed that Donald Trump enjoys an 11-point lead over Biden among voters who trust them to handle the economy, with 42% to 31% in his favor.

President Biden, who entered office at the age of 78 in January 2021, is the oldest president in US history, surpassing Donald Trump's record by eight years.

If he were to be elected for a second term, he would be 82 years old at the time of inauguration.

Internet slams Karine Jean-Pierre for claiming President Biden’s cognitive test isn't necessary

People on X expressed their concerns over the White House press secretary quoting the White House physician's assessment of President Biden's health and thereby deeming it nonessential for the 81-year-old to undertake a cognitive test.

One X user remarked: "That’s because he would fail!"

Another user claimed, "Biden hasn’t had a cognitive test prescribed by any of his doctors. Trump has had them prescribed twice because he openly exhibits symptoms of cognitive impairment. Bragging about taking a cognitive exam is akin to bragging about getting sent for a colonoscopy."

Another user wrote: "Ha ha @JoeBiden is liar".

One X user said, "His behavior proves he needs the cognitive test".

Another user quipped: "Because #DementiaJoe would fail".

Finally, this user tweeted: "Yeah, he proves every day what a senile, dementia patient he is."
